WHAT IS ASLSASLS (Advanced Stroke Life Support) at Help-A-Heart CPR, LLC is a specialized stroke-care training curriculum designed for healthcare providers who manage or respond to acute stroke emergencies, whether in prehospital or in hospital settings or even both.
WHO SHOULD GET ASLS CERTIFICATION?This course is aimed at paramedics, EMTs, emergency medical personnel, nurses, ICU/ER staff, physicians, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, stroke coordinators, and other clinicians who may encounter stroke patients in San Antonio, the entire state of Texas as well as the United States. An ASLS certification ensures you’re trained to recognize stroke symptoms, perform neurologic assessments, apply evidence-based stroke protocols, and manage stroke patients safely and effectively.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THE ASLS CERTIFICATION CLASS & HOW DO I PREPARE?During the ASLS skills session, students demonstrate their ability to:
1. Perform neurologic exams and stroke scales 2. Identify stroke vs. stroke mimics 3. Apply prehospital and in-hospital stroke protocols 4. Make accurate, timely decisions based on symptoms and findings 5. Communicate stroke details effectively to receiving facilities or in-hospital teams 6. Manage both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke scenarios through simulation To prepare, review the online modules carefully, practice basic assessment skills, refresh your knowledge of common stroke presentations, and be ready to participate actively during scenarios. Many students also benefit from brushing up on BLS provider skills prior to attending, as stroke care frequently overlaps with airway, breathing, and circulation management. |
WHAT DOES THE ASLS COURSE COVER & HOW IS IT STRUCTURED?The ASLS Blended Learning Course combines an online, self-paced eLearning module with an in-person hands-on skills session at our San Antonio training center. The online portion covers all major components of stroke management, including stroke pathophysiology, ischemic vs. hemorrhagic stroke, stroke scale assessments, stroke mimics, prehospital stroke protocols, hospital activation procedures, and acute stroke management strategies.
After completing the online modules, students attend an in-person skills evaluation led by a certified ASLS instructor. During this session, students practice live neurologic assessments, perform stroke scale evaluations, work through simulated stroke scenarios, and demonstrate proper decision-making using current stroke-care algorithms. This blended format provides the flexibility busy healthcare professionals need while ensuring hands-on competence in managing stroke emergencies. HOW LONG IS THE ASLS CERTIFICATION VALID & WHEN SHOULD I RENEW?The ASLS Provider Certification from Help-A-Heart CPR, LLC is valid for two years. After that, healthcare professionals must complete an ASLS renewal to maintain up-to-date stroke-care skills and remain compliant with employer, hospital, and EMS credentialing standards.
Stroke-care guidelines are updated quite frequently, so renewing ASLS on time ensures that you stay current with modern stroke protocols, neurologic assessment updates, and best practices in prehospital and in-hospital stroke management. San Antonio and Texas hospitals, EMS agencies, and urgent-care systems typically require active ASLS certification for staff involved in stroke response. |
