STOP THE BLEED
Did you know that after a traumatic injury, hemorrhage is responsible for over 35% of deaths and over 40% of deaths within the first 24 hours- second only to the rates of death due to severe central nervous system injury? Hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable trauma death. It is estimated that as many as 1 in 5 trauma deaths are preventable through the use of bleeding control techniques.
"Stop the Bleed" is a remarkable nationwide initiative in the United States that aims to educate people about recognizing and responding to life-threatening bleeding situations effectively. This empowering campaign equips individuals with valuable knowledge and essential skills to take immediate action, potentially saving lives in critical bleeding emergencies.
The American College of Surgeons (ACS) STOP THE BLEED® program is administered by the ACS Committee on Trauma (ACS COT) and taught to improve the care of injured patients before, during, and after hospitalization. This approximately 1 hour training includes a formal presentation which is then followed by hands-on practice. Participants practice applying direct pressure, packing wounds, and using a tourniquet to stop bleeding.

What Will i learn in A stop the bleed Certification course?
- Identifying the different types of bleeding: Participants will learn to identify different types of bleeding including arterial, venous, and capillary bleeding.
- Understanding the principle of bleeding control: The Stop the Bleed course aims to provide the participants with a basic understanding of the principle of bleeding control and apply them in emergencies.
- How to apply a tourniquet properly: The Stop the Bleed course will teach the participants to apply a tourniquet properly as a last resort to control severe bleeding.
- Applying Pressure and Wound Packaging: The Stop the Bleed course will teach the participants how to apply direct pressure and apply wound packing techniques to control bleeding.
- Importance of bystander intervention: Participants will learn about bystander intervention to save lives in bleeding emergencies by taking fast and appropriate actions.
