Even Pets Can Benefit From CPR!

EVEN PETS CAN BENEFIT FROM CPR

Did you know that a pet owner can use their knowledge of human infant CPR to help their pet? Researchers have translated human resuscitation guidelines and training for pet owners, preparing them to use CPR to save their furriest family members.
Cardiac arrests in dogs and cats are similar to those in children, often resulting from breathing problems rather than heart issues, said Fletcher, professor of veterinary medicine at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca, New York.
Choking, allergic reactions and heat stroke are among the top reasons dogs collapse and need CPR. As with children, pets need both rescue breaths and chest compressions.

As a proud parent of my furry baby, I found this part so touching. AHA CPR instructor Alicia Pederson of Forney, Texas, saved Miri, here Boston Terrier pupppy. in 2014 after finding the newborn “still and cold” in the middle of the night. Within five minutes after starting CPR, Pederson heard a cough, and the puppy started whimpering.
Unfortunately, many have assumed that there’s no point in doing CPR because survival rates are so low — currently 6 percent to 7 percent.
But those stats are misleading, Fletcher said. Dogs and cats who go into cardiac arrest shortly after being given general anesthesia have an almost 50 percent chance of survival.
Now here;s the wonderful part-pet CPR training introduces the concepts of human CPR, which could lead more pet owners to learn the technique for people.
Let's spread the word that human CPR can work on pets too.

Take a moment to ready this awesome article.

Houston Mother Saves 5 Year Old Son's Life!

8/12/2016

Pediatric and child CPR and First Aid is one of our most popular classes, Here's why it is so important.
A young boy in Houston, Texas names Adoniah Costa "hit his head in a neighbor’s pool and lost consciousness while submerged underwater. When his mother saw her son motionless at the bottom of the pool, she plunged into the water, pulled him out and began chest compressions".
After what Adoniah's mother said felt like an eternity, "Adoniah finally took a breath and started crying, perhaps a saddening sound in typical situations, but on that day it was a welcome sign"  that Adoniah would live.
What Adoniah's mother did
was critical in saving her son’s life. If her actions had been delayed, things could have turned out very differently.Subsequently, this mother is determined to turn what could have been a tragic situation into an opportunity to inspire other parents to take CPR training classes. Even though her CPR attempts proved to be successful, she has not taken a class since she was 10 years old and is still uncertain that she used the correct technique.
However, isn't it amazing how despite the time that has lapsed-she still remembered the importance of calling 911 and performing chest compressions and breaths.
This article is touching and only validates the importance of every parent knowing how to perform CPR.
