When disaster occurs; there is often little time to react or even prepare. However, putting together a plan before disaster strikes can help alleviate undue stress and allow for everyone to become familiar with the protocol in an emergency.
A few things you can do include: 1. Prepare an emergency kit with bottled water and nonperishable food items; flashlight, battery powered radio, batteries, extra cash, cell phone with extra battery and charger, first aid supplies, and critical medications, and blankets and extra clothing. Its also important to have things stored in your car such as flares, tool kit, and extra blankets. 2. Learn CPR and Emergency First Aid. 3. Meeting location: Decide on a location where everyone can meet in the event of an emergency and decide how you will communicate with each other. 4. Map: If you live in an area that is susceptible to flooding or other natural catastrophe; decide on alternative travel arrangements and always have an extra map for evacuation purposes.
