The state of New Mexico is paving the way with passing a law requiring CPR and First Aid Instruction in the classroom. This article is wonderful. A definite must read....
"New Mexico students will have to study all of those, thanks to two identical bills that passed the state Legislature and were signed into law by Gov. Susana Martinez this week. Both bills — Senate Bill 1, sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez, D-Belen, and House Bill 104, sponsored by Rep. Terry McMillan, R-Las Cruces, will require schools to teach New Mexico students — from first- through 12th-graders — emergency lifesaving training. Because of the legislation, schools will be responsible for training students to recognize the signs of a heart attack, to use an automated external defibrillator and to perform the Heimlich maneuver for choking victims."
